
This left-hander pitcher and batter got his start with the Minnesota Twins in 1982 and spent more years with the team than any other he played for. He spent two years with the New York Mets from 1989 to 1991 before moving on to the Boston Red Sox (1992-1994) the Cincinnati Reds in 1995, and finally the Toronto Blue Jays in 1996.
Frank Viola was recently inducted to the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame, and spent eight seasons with the team from 1982-1989. He won 112 games over those years.
Credited with leading the Minnesota Twins to its first World Series Championship in 1987, he earned the Series MVP award for that year followed by winning the American League Cy Young Award in 1988 for an impressive 24 wins, 7 losses and a 2.64 ERA. Viola also added the Babe Ruth award to his many credits in 1987.
Amongst the Twins, Viola is 5th for games pitched at 112, 4th for games started at 259, and 6th for completed pitching games at 50, and 4th for strikeouts at 1,214. He has been recognized as a League All-Star three years: All-American with the Twins in 1988 and National in 1990 and 1991 with the New York Mets.
Viola will be elected into the Hall of Fame on June 4th of this year in a special ceremony. He is the 14th member of the Twins Hall of Fame.
