Mike Tirico's interest in sports began at Bayside High School in Queens, NY, where he played for the golf team. Mike attended Syracuse University (1987 to 1991), where he directed sports for the CBS affiliate WTVH-TV and voiced play-by-play action for his alma mater's football, lacrosse, basketball and volleyball games.
The Syracuse Journal selected Mike as the top local sportscaster. The Associated Press New York awarded Mike for a 30-minute documentary about Syracuse's game preparation style, titled "48 Hours with Syracuse University Football." He was first to receive the Bob Costas Scholarship for exceptional journalism students at Syracuse.
Mike's experience covers commentating for the FedEx Orange Bowl, the British Open golf championship, and co-hosting Super Bowl's XL pre- and post-game shows. In addition, Mike has worked with ABC Sports in covering golf, after he was recruited to host in 1996.
Mike Tirico became a member of the ESPN team in 1991. This year he signed on as a play-by-play commentator for Monday Night Football with Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser. Tirico's specialty includes NFL games, college football games, college basketball and the NBA since 2002 for both ESPN and ABC Sports.
