Chad Greenway
Chad became the first player ever selected by the Vikings in the first round from Iowa and only the sixth LB ever drafted in the first round in team history. Greenway is also the first LB from Iowa to be selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft.Greenway joins fellow Vikings LB Ben Leber (Vermillion) and Colts’ Kicker Adam Vinatieri (Rapid City) as the only current players in the NFL from South Dakota.
Greenway was selected with the 17th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and was the third LB taken, behind only A.J. Hawk (5th-Green Bay) and Ernie Sims (9th-Detroit).
Chad, a two-time All-Big 10 selection who finished his career ranked 5th in school history with 416 tackles. He started 38 of the 45 games he played in during his career and recorded at least 10 tackles in a game 25 times during his career. Greenway’s 156 tackles as a senior in ‘05 ranked third in school history, trailing only Andre Jackson (171 in 1972) and Abdul Hodge (158 in 2005).
