Fergie Jenkins
Fergie Jenkins is one of the best pitchers to ever come out of Canada. The Hall of Fame member was born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. He made his major league debut on September, 10, 1965 for the Philadelphia Phillies.
He is best know for his time as a Chicago Cub where he had two separate stints – 66-73’ & 82-83. He also played for the Texas Rangers (74-75’ & 78-81’) and the Boston Red Sox for 76-77’. Twelve of his nineteen seasons were spent in “Hitter Friendly” ball parks, which make his career numbers of 284 wins, and an impressive lifetime ERA of 3.34 even more remarkable.
He used his pinpoint control and effective off-speed pitches to confuse and frustrate hitters for many years. As a diligent workhorse, Jenkins used and easy and uncomplicated throwing motion to reach the 20-win mark seven times and capture the National League Cy Young Award in1971.
He was an All-Star three times and was inducted into the Major League Hall of Fame in 1991.
