Roger Craig - San Francisco 49er's
Roger Craig is best known as the high-stepping running back for the World Champion San Francisco 49er's. He along with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice made the 49er's one of the best offenses in NFL history. He was drafted in the second round by the 49'ers out of the University of Nebraska, where he once held the record for longest run from scrimmage (94 yards) set during a 1981 game vs. Florida State. He led the NFL in receptions by a running back with 92 in 1985 while gaining 1016 yards. He also became the first player in NFL history to gain more than 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving in a single season, accomplishing this in 1985. He was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Year by United Press International in 1998 when he rushed for 1,502 yard and caught 76 passes for 534 yards. One of his careen highlights was when he scored three touchdowns, two receiving, when the 49er's beat the Miami Dolphins 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX after the 1984 season. As a 49er, Craig went on to win a total of three Super Bowls (1985, 1989, 1990) and play in a record 11 consecutive playoffs -- the only player to accomplish this feat. He made the Pro-Bowl five times earning All-Pro honors four times. Craig was the NFL MVP in 1988, as well as, the Sports Illustrated Player of the Year in 1988. He finished his career as a Minnesota Viking having played for the Vikings in 1992 and 1993. He is the only player in NFL history to be named to the Pro-Bowl both as a fullback and halfback. He was also named to the Team of the Decade in the 80". In 1998 and 1999 Craig was nominated to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
