Dusty Coleman - Baseball

The Sioux Falls native and O’Gorman High School standout finds himself on the cusp of his baseball career. After playing two seasons at Wichita State University he was drafted by the Oakland A’s as one of their top prospects. As a freshman at Wichita State, Dusty started 58 games and batted .264 while getting named to the Wichita All Region team. In 2008, Dusty hit a solid .314 with 8 homeruns while helping the Shockers to a 48-17 record and one win away from the College World Series. After his sophomore season Dusty played with Team USA for a short period, before deciding to spend the majority of the summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League where he earned an All-Star bid as the West team shortstop. This sparked his fast track to MLB draft where the Oakland A’s picked drafted him in 2008. In his first year with the Oakland A’s (Kane County Cougars & Stockton Ports affiliates) he was one the best up and coming players in the A’s organization, earning the starting shortstop job in the Midwest League All-Star Game while playing for the Kane County Cougars before he injured his wrist in late May of 2009. He battled through a broken wrist for half of the season before ultimately requiring surgery to repair it in September. Being a very complicated bone to heal, Dusty wrist required a second surgery to fix what did not heal completely, which is why he has to opportunity to join our group of Legends this year.
