Mike Miller - Basketball
After being traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Washington Wizards in 2009, Miller has averaged 9.9 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 3.4 assists per game in the first half of the season.
In the 2008-09 season at Minnesota, Miller Appeared in 73 games and had 47 starts. He averaged 9.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, to go with a career-high 4.5 assists per contest. Mike grabbed a career-high 483 total rebounds, and amassed four double-doubles in March, seventh overall. Miller had a season-high nine assists on five occasions, and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds including the 3,000th of his career versus the Golden State Warriors on March 3rd, 2009.
Miller’s road to stardom began in Mitchell, SD where he led the Mitchell Kernels to two State basketball titles before taking his talents to the University of Florida where he further solidified his reputation as a "Big Time" player, leading Florida to the NCAA National Championship in 2000. Mike began his NBA Career with the Orlando Magic when they drafted him the 5th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. Miller came out shooting and scoring which earned him the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2001. Miller was traded to the Grizzlies in 2002. In the 2006 season Miller was selected as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year, after his wonderful performance of 13.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.7 apg and shot 40.7% from behind the arc. In 2007, Miller took his performance up another notch averaging 18.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.3 apg and was selected to participate in the NBA All-Star Three-Point Shooting contest during the NBA All-Star weekend.
He’s not only succeeding on the court but is very involved in his community efforts off the court, both in Memphis and in South Dakota. His Mike Miller Foundation, as well as, many charities and communities here in South Dakota have benefited from Miller’s generosity. He and his wife Jennifer gave $1,000,000 to the Sanford Children’s Hospital for the Intensive Care Unit in 2008.
